A pile of the brussel sprouts, garlic and the parmesan cheese.
  • Brussels Sprouts: Get brussels sprouts that are on the smaller side. Too big of sprouts won’t cook right and you won’t end up with that crispy texture.
  • Garlic: Peel and mince fresh garlic to add some of that delicious flavor.
  • Cheese: Instead of parmesan, try other grated cheese like pecorino Romano, asiago or even a sprinkle of crumbled goat cheese after roasting.
  • Try adding these for fun variations:
    • Nuts: Add chopped nuts like walnuts, pecans, or almonds for extra crunch and flavor. Add them towards the end of cooking to prevent burning.
    • Bacon/Pancetta: Crispy bacon or pancetta adds a smoky, salty flavor. Cook the bacon separately and crumble it over the Brussels sprouts after roasting.
    • Balsamic Glaze: A drizzle of balsamic glaze after roasting adds a touch of sweetness and acidity.
    • Maple Syrup: A drizzle of maple syrup or honey can also balance the bitterness of the Brussels sprouts.
    • Spices: Experiment with different spices like red pepper flakes, garlic powder, smoked paprika, onion powder and cayenne.
    • Herbs: Fresh herbs like thyme, rosemary, or sage add a wonderful aroma and flavor. Add them towards the end of cooking.
    • Lemon: A squeeze of lemon juice after roasting brightens up the flavor.
