To make sure you pick a fresh pineapple, Look at the color of the outside of the pineapple. If it’s mostly dark green, then it’s underripe. If it’s mostly dark yellow or orange, then it’s overripe. Also look for one with green leaves, a firm texture, and a slightly sweet smell.

1. Heat your Grill and Cut the Pineapple

Heat the grill to medium heat. Then, lay the pineapple on its side. Using a sharp knife, cut slices of pineapple into rings or wedges and core the pineapple. You can use a pineapple corer if you have one, or use a cookie cutter to remove the core.

2. Grill the Pineapple

Place cut pineapple onto preheated grill and cook for a grilling time of 3 to 5 minutes on each side to caramelize, turn the pineapple occasionally, until pineapple is warmed through, golden brown, and the sides of each pineapple slice have grill char marks and pineapple is done.

How to Store, Reheat and Use Leftovers

I always make extra grilled pineapple so that I can use it in my favorite chicken salad recipe.

  • Storing: The grilled pineapple will last in an airtight container or zip top bag for up to five days.
  • Reheating: You can reheat the pineapple on the grill, in the microwave or even on the stovetop in a skillet.
  • Using Leftovers: It is wonderful on top of salads, in chicken salad or mixed in yogurt or ice cream.

  1. Yum, grilled pineapple is delicious!

I recommend buying a pineapple slicer, it is my favorite kitchen utensil! Much easier and less messy than a knife, gives you nice rings, and leaves the shell for use as a bowl or cup. 🙂

They are available at Bed, Bath & Beyond and The Kitchen Collection for $10.
